About the work

About the work

Excerpts from reviews by Helen Harrison an art critic for the New York Times newspaper:
New York Times Aug. 2 1992
“The constructions by William Zingaro are both whimsical and eccentric using visual metaphor to allude to the unresolved tension between the man-made and natural worlds. In Cal Cart #2 for example, Mr. Zingaro has created a playful assemblage of objects that allude to both realms. A plant like shape and an abstracted tree ride the cart together with a column and cube, all uneasily balanced on their rolling platform.”

New York Times Aug. 7, 1994
“William Zingaro takes a more whimsical approach to conflict in “Battle of the Shapes #10” a construction in which the various elements vie for sculptural supremacy. Reaching out into space with authority and full of forceful internal interaction, the work is well suited to their setting.
In Mr. Zingaro’s “Obsessions” plaster objects are boxed like precious memento's, yet they are not inherently valuable or fascinating. The work is an artist’s revealing comment on his private preoccupations, which outsiders may find obscure, even incomprehensible. In Mr. Zingaro’s case, however, his obsessions often give birth to strong, intriguing works of art.”

Excerpts from a review by Kim Jae Young a Korean art critic for the magazine Art Korea:
Art Korea Sept., Oct. 1998
A translation from Korean into English of an installation that was constructed from wood, steel, plaster, and included sound.
“I met Bill Zingaro’s art at the Bronx River Art Center and Gallery in a group exhibition. I had to stop when I met Bill’s art since it was so attractive and the best among all arts in that gallery. The art possessed clean straight line, curve, stereography, company, hardness, soft touch, originality, and art touch.”
