Biography

Biography

1930 born Ist May, Hamburg, Germany
1948 began studies at Hamburg State School of Art
1949 - 52 studied and trained as a lithographer in Hamburg
1952 - 57 studied painting under Willi Baumeister until the death of his master, at the Stuttgart National Academy of Fine Arts. Period of his first paintings.
1957 free-lance professional painter in Stuttgart. Awarded prizes in numerous contests and competitions of predominantly architectural painting. (Media: stone, ceramics, wood for public buildings in Northern and Southern Germony).
1964 began lectureship of painting and drawing at the Pforzheim School of Fine and Decorative Arts. Later he became the director of this school.
1971 Founder and 1st President of the National College of Design: in this year he was awarded his professorship in painting.
1977 resigned the presidency in order to concentrate on teaching painting.
1981 the period of his first interest in the language of scriptural letters, symbols, and numbers.
1984 he relinquished his university teaching activities in order to concentrate on painting. From this time he declined any further architectural or sculptural commissions.
1985 moved to Fontanille in the South of France. The new surroundings caused far-reaching changes his personal philosophy, permitting a new and undisturbed artistic activity.
1985 - 88 the work of these years is the subject of this book.
