1948 started painting. studies with klir beck, maine nature painter.

1951 began studies in boston university, life classes.

1953 served in united states navy until 1957. serving in washington, d.c. followed by three years in london, g.b. continued to paint.

1957 travels to lima, peru. establishes studio and graphic workshop. experiments with serigraphy. starts with others the first contempory art gallery in lima.

1958 first one-man show, galeria san isidro, lima. still lifes of repeated forms in luminous play. returns to europe visiting barcelona, paris, london, and ibiza, a balearic island off the coast of spain in the mediterranean.

1959 designs and starts building residence-studio with own hands on ibiza. makes acquaintances with other artists and writers. begins studies at the sorbonne in paris. studio in cite universitaire.

1961 alternates residence between paris and ibiza. first european one-man show, galleria casapana, rome.

1962-1965 exhibitions in france, italy, and spain. painting becomes abstract with repeated linear designs that are related to the figure and the landscape. finishes studio in ibiza, reproduced around the world in magazines and newspapers.

1965 returns to the u.s. travels the continent visiting galleries and museums. private showing of his work for art world personalities in franz kline's former studio in new york.

1966 begins graphic editions in taller ibograf, ibiza.

1967 first american one-man show, galeria carl van der voort, san francisco, ca.

1968 painting moves through geometric abstraction toward constructivism.

1970 experiments with relief and minimal form. takes over direction of taller ibograf, ibiza. master screen printer.

1971-1979 participates in international art fair, basel, switzerland.

1972 begins to employ overlapping materials.

1973 one-man show, basel international art fair.

1974 participates in street show with moving canvas in rottweil, west germany.

1976 designs catalog and curates 10 year retrospective of prints from taller ibograf, museo de arte contemporaneo d'ibiza.

1977 leaves painting for extensive experimentation with repeated forms employing cardboards and papers.

1978 traveling exhibition, CINCO CAMINOS DE LA ABSTRACCION, shown in the principal cities of spain.

1979 moves to centuries old ibizan arab farmhouse.

1982 alternates residence between ibiza and new york, continuing work on cardboard and paper collage.

1984 first one-man show in new york, galeria joan prats.

1985 begins transformation of historic pennsylvania barn into residence - studio.

1986 alternates between ibiza and pennsylvania. group exhibition, PINTAR CON PAPEL, together with work by miro, picasso, motherwell, et. al., Circulo de Bellas Artes, madrid.

1988 retrospective exhibition, DON KUNKEL, 1978 - 1988, CONSTRUCTIONS, Lehigh University, bethlehem, penn. designs catalog.

1988 establishes studio in historic gothic quarter of barcelona.

1989 participates in design and installation of ars documenta, an information and consulting service by computer for the fine art world. amsterdam, barcelona, and new haven, ct.

1990 establishes studio in erector square, an artist complex, new haven, ct.

1991 thirty year retrospective, DON KUNKEL 1961 - 1991, museo de arte contemporaneo d'ibiza.

1992 important group exhibition, BALEARIC BYWAYS, CULTURAL CONFLUENCES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN, international monetary fund, washington, d.c.
