Biography

Biography

1954 Juan Uslé born in Santander on 19th December.
1973 - 77 Studies Fine Art in San Carlos Secondary School in Valencia.
1975 - 77 Works in collaboration with Victoria Civera. Alternates between photography, photomontage and painting.
1978 Concentrates on painting. Gives classes in the Sculpture department of Santander University.
1980 Scholarship for Young Artists from Ministry of Culture.
1980 - 82 Evolution of his work from bright abstraction to more complex and defined space.
1982 Scholarship for the Investigation of New Expressive Forms from the Ministry of Culture.
1982 - 84 "Los trabajos y los días, las tentaciones del pintor", "Camino del llano" series. Emblematic work, his palate becomes darker.
1984 Head professor of the Department of Sculptural Arts of the University of Cantabria.
1984 - 86 "Andora-Tanger" and "Río Cubas" series. The dialogue forms disappear into the landscape of the painting.
1986 Scholarship for further study of the arts in New York from the joint Hispanic-north American committee.
1987 - 89 Williamsburg y Los últimos sueños del Capitán Nemo series. Black paintings. Atmospheric and ambiguous space.
1989 - 90 Works simultaneously on two new series, Nemaste y Duda and in the last works of the Nemovisión series.
1990 - 91 Extends the repertoire of images. Presents of urban characters.
1991 - 92 Language becomes more precise. Plot and gesture are both in the same space.
1993 - 94 Rupture of the plot and fragmentation of the language.
1995 - 96 Composition complexity, spaces inhabited by active mechanisms.

From 1987 lives and works between Saro (Cantabria) and New York.
