About the work (english / deutsch)
In General
Thomas Bayrle's pictures come into being by connecting of simple, everyday things with which we are all familiar being joined together: cars, houses, railway cars, airplanes, road lanes, railway tracks - whereby most of them seen from the perspective of a plan view. The single motifs are linked in a sequence back to back such that at first sight complete disorder seems to reign on the picture's surface. In this process, the rational and efficiently constructed basic components are united to form larger groups.
This theme of the relation between the individual and mass society is not new to Bayrle's work, for he already treated it in his early work. Influenced by American and English Pop Art, he constantly made use there of everyday motifs, shying no taboos in the process. The impact of intensified product advertising and the hypocritical philistine morality of the day both stimulated him in his artistic work in equal measure. Indeed, his insight that mass man today travels down the wrong roads must lead us to conclude that we must now search for our own, self-determined path to follow.

Allgemeines
