About the work (english)

About the work (english)

When it comes to art, Michael Schlicting is out of touch with reality. What he is in touch with is the visceral emotion that a scene evokes. Mood, feeling and universal longing are the subjects of his art rather than literal, physical realism. His multi-layered work is rooted in the abstract forms of nature. Patterns of sand. Shapes of rocks. Color harmonies of sky and clouds. In his images, Schlicting vividly demonstrates it is not what you see that counts, but what you sense. It is this probing, intuitive exploration that has given Schlicting's art a deeper level of meaning, and in the process, gained him national distinction.

Michael Schlicting has been making his living as an artist for the past 22 years. He focused on watercolor painting and soon was winning awards on the local and then national scene. He has won top honors at the National Watercolor Society annual exhibitions and awards and medals at the American Watercolor Society's exhibitions, as well as many other painting competitions. He was elected to the American Watercolor Society in 1990 and has been a National Vice-President.
In recent years Michael has been painting in acrylic as well as watercolor. His paintings from travels to South America and Europe have been very well received. His paintings hang in over 2000 collections around the world.
Michael makes his home in Portland, Oregon with his wife Stephanie and their two children. He has a studio/gallery at Neskowin on the Oregon coast where he can usually be found in the summer months.
