Un total de 20 obras conforman esta exposición que recoge una selección de la obra  plástica de este artista producida en el 2001.

Nacido en Pamplona en 1970, obtiene en 1995 la Licenciatura en Bellas Artes por la Universidad del País Vasco en las especialidades de Pintura y Restauración. Complementa su formación participando en los talleres de Luis Gordillo organizados por la Universidad Complutense en San Lorenzo de El Escorial (1994) y con Hdz. Pijuan en la Fundación Botín, Santander (1995). Como experto en conservación y museos ha colaborado en la instalación de la Exposición inaugural del Museo Guggenheim Bilbao (1997), en el Departamento de Conservación en el Museo Nacional Reina Sofía (1997-98) y en los equipos curatoriales del Museo de Arte Moderno de México D.F. (1998) del Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum de Nueva York (1999) y en el del Museum of Modern Art -MOMA-, (2000). Actualmente es el responsable del Area de Desarrollo del Dept. de Comunicación del IVAM (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno) Ha representado a España en el Encuentro Europeo de Arte "Viterbo Crossroads of the Arts'94" organizado por la Unión Europea en Viterbo, Italia. En 1995 obtiene la beca Erasmus para una estancia en el Hogeschool s'Hertogenbosch en Holanda. Entre los premios conseguidos destaca el de Jóvenes Artistas Pamplona 1996 (Pintura) y el primer premio "Wolksbank Padenborg" (1996) Padenborg. Alemania.

Como últimas exposiciones: "Surfaces and support Systems". Watts Gallery. Nueva York (2001), Museo de Navarra. Pamplona (2001), Galería 16. San Sebastián (2000), Ciudadela, Pamplona (2000). Actualmente prepara la muestra "La abstracción en Navarra" Sala de Armas de Pamplona.

En esta muestra David Rodríguez Caballero presenta una serie de "pinturas" sobre metacrilato y aluminio con un tratamiento muy personal. Utilizando estos materiales tan típicos de la escultura, consigue unas obras que 
presentan una conjunción de dos procesos pictóricos: por un lado la pintura de superficie y por otro el tratamiento de la materia (la sedimentación) conjugándolos en el mismo espacio. La materia pictórica funciona como pequeños toques de atención ante la visión de una superficie aparentemente monocroma y casi industrial cuando se ve a cierta distancia, que al acercarse, el espectador se va adentrando en los matices de un universo de una gran calidez. Tanto si se trata de las pinturas sobre metacrilato como cuando utiliza el aluminio como soporte pulido con lanas metálicas. Rodríguez Caballero sensibiliza la materia consiguiendo en estas obras un reduccionismo y síntesis formal.

Con motivo de la exposición la galería Agurcho Iruretagoyena ha producido un catálogo que documenta la obra en exposición, acompañado de tres textos (español-inglés) que ofrecen tres miradas de la obra de David Rodríguez Caballero. Textos de Marta Arroyo, directora artística del IVAM (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno), Juan Zapater, director de la revista Ártico y Javier Hontoria, crítico del Cultural, El Mundo.

Agurcho Iruretegoyena Gallery presents the late works of  David Rodríguez Caballero; the exhibition will be held from May 17 through June 22 in Pamplona.

This exhibition showcases twenty artworks, forming a selection of the production of the artist during the 2001.

Born in Pamplona in 1970, David Rodríguez Caballero got a degree in Fine Arts (in both Painting and Conservation specialities)  in 1995 at País Vasco University  He also participates in relevant workshops, such as the ones with Luis Gordillo (Complutense University in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, 1994 and with Hdz. Pijuan in Botin Foundation, Santander, 1995. As an expert in Conservation and Museums, he has worked on the the Opening Exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao (1997), in the Conservation Department at the Reina Sofia (1997-1998) and also in the curatorial teams of the Museo de Arte Moderno de México D.F. (1998), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Nueva York City (1999) and Museum of Modern Art -MOMA-, (2000). He is currently in charge of the Development Area in the Communications Department at the IVAM (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno).

David Rodríguez Caballero has represented Spain in the European Art Meeting "Viterbo Crossroads of the Arts'94" organized by the UE in Viterbo, Italia. He is awarded with a Erasmus grant in 1995 to study in the Hogeschool s' Hertogenbosch en Holanda. Some of his prizes are Young Artist of Pamplona 1996 (Painting) and "Wolksbank Padenborg" First Prize (1996) Padenborg. Alemania.

In the exhibition at Agurcho Iruretagoyena Gallery, the artist presents a series of "paintings" on Plexiglas and aluminium with a very special processing. By using traditionally sculptural materials, he produces artworks that join two pictorial processes in the same space: on one hand, the painting of surface, and on the other hand, the manipulation of the material (sedimentation).

The colourful pictorial piece work as small touches of attention, since they contrast in the vision of a so-called monocrome and almost industrial surface; as the spectator gets closer that vision starts penetrating into the nuances of a quite warm universe. David Rodríguez Caballero sensitize the materials both when he works on the aluminium as polished with sand paper support and on the plexiglas. The result of this process is a reductionism and a formal synthesis.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the gallery Agurcho Iruretagoyena is publishing a catalogue of the same title. The catalogue will include a set of essays by Marta Arroyo, Art Director at the IVAM (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno), Juan Zapater, Director of the Artico Magazine and Javier Hontoria, art critic of El Cultural, El Mundo.
